How to Move a Home Office Without Losing Work

Pack monitors, computers, standing desks, files and cables while keeping essential work available during a move.

What should never go on the truck?

Keep laptops, backup drives, credentials, client records and anything needed for the next workday with you. A moving carton is not the place for your only copy of important data.

How should monitors and computers be packed?

Back up data, photograph every connection, label cables and use fitted cartons with foam protection. Keep monitors upright and remove loose internal components when the manufacturer recommends it.

  • Back up locally and to the cloud
  • Label both ends of each cable
  • Bag hardware by furniture piece
  • Pack one first-day work kit

How do you move a standing desk?

Lower it, disconnect power, secure the legs and control box, and remove the top when size or weight makes that safer. Keep assembly hardware with the frame.

What gets set up first?

Internet equipment, one desk, one computer and essential lighting come before files and décor. Test the connection before the moving crew leaves if furniture placement affects cabling.
