When is a standard box enough?
A properly sized double-wall carton with cushioning works for many dishes, lamps, small framed pieces and household electronics. The item should not touch the walls or move when the box is gently shifted.
When should you choose a custom crate?
Crating is appropriate for oversized, unusually shaped, high-value or structurally fragile items that cannot be supported evenly in a carton.
- Large framed art or mirrors
- Stone and marble pieces
- Sculpture and chandeliers
- Sensitive commercial equipment
What is inside a moving crate?
A good crate combines a rigid shell with blocking, cushioning and a moisture barrier selected for the item. Labels show orientation, lift points and opening instructions.
Is crating only for long-distance moves?
No. A short trip can still damage an item if it flexes, tips or takes point pressure. Distance matters less than fragility and handling requirements.
