The certificate of insurance is the big one
Most mid-rise and high-rise buildings in Uptown, Las Colinas and downtown Dallas will not let a truck onto the property without a certificate of insurance naming the property as additional insured. Request it from your mover at least five business days out.
Reserve the elevator and the dock
Buildings typically allow move-ins Monday through Saturday inside a four-hour window. That window is a hard stop — if you lose it, you may wait days. Book the earliest slot available and tell your mover the exact times.
- Ask about elevator padding requirements
- Confirm dock height and truck length limits
- Get the gate and freight-elevator codes in writing
- Ask whether a refundable move-in deposit applies
Document the unit before a single box comes in
Photograph every wall, floor, counter and appliance before move-in, timestamped. This protects your deposit and separates existing damage from anything that happens on move day.
